Why intuitive and involved travel planning is effective

There’s a huge difference between traveling and traveling properly

It’s important to make the most out of your travel time to gain the greatest benefits. Whether you’re going on a vacation or it’s the weekend, there’s a way to optimize on your time away from work and not missing opportunities to obtain the wellness benefits and transformation that travel can provide

Properly using your vacation time on travel instead of just using it to stay home. Take advantage of the time that you have to enrich your mind, body, and overall well-being.

To make the most out of your travels or time off, some things to ask yourself are:

  • What are you struggling with in your personal and work life?
  • What would your ideal lifestyle and well-being look like upon return from a trip?
  • Where can you travel to that has the healing properties and qualities that you seek?
  • How much time do you need to achieve the transformation that you want?
  • Do you need to travel alone and do self-reflection and to find yourself?
  • Do you want to travel with your children, partner, or someone else to strengthen your relationship?
  • What would make you happy in life?
  • What concerns, fears, or worries do you have about traveling and what steps do you need to overcome or deal with them?
  • Do you want to completely disconnect during your trip or do you want to fit in time to do work?
  • Where can you go nearby for a short weekend get-away or go on a “stay-cation”?

While it may not be surprising that mega-travelers are happier with how they spend their paid time off compared to homebodies (76% to 48%), there are some significant differences that show that travel—not simply taking time off for any purpose—is how to get the greatest benefit out of your given vacation time.

Do’s and Do Not’s of Travel Planning

Planning for a trip does not have to be so overwhelming, stressful, intimidating, or expensive that you fail to experience the full benefits that you can from traveling or you simply just don’t go.

DO:

Plan for your bucketlist and not your “to-do” list

Block off your travel time in your calendar, even if your plans aren’t set in stone yet. Marking a spot for traveling in your calendar will creates the mindset and opportunity for vacation

Talk to your manager about your travel plans as far in advance as you can to secure your time off and it doesn’t get rejected due to late notice

Ask yourself WHY you are wanting to travel. Think deeply. What are your real reasons for wanting to get away? Your answers will help you when figuring out where and when to go, how to get there, how long to go for, what to do on the trip, and who to go with.

Seek advice and guidance from a travel coach in the niche that you most relate to and has the experiences and stories that you want for yourself

DO NOT:

Overplan. You will overwhelm yourself with information and add to your stress. The best experiences on trips are those which are spontaneous and unplanned for. Talking with others when you arrive in your destination will help you add new and exciting things to your itinerary.

Make your bucketlist unattainable. Do what is reasonable for you, your time frame, and your budget.

Be afraid of being proactive and making sure that you are using the vacation days that you’ve earned

Don’t depend on anyone else to plan and book your trip for you entirely. Be sure to be involved and make decisions as much as you can. Remember, these are your experiences to be had and your journey to go on!
